The candidate was able to break a big problem into smaller problems and resolve them accordingly. He first defined basic functionalities required, and then described how the data models can be defined.
The first version was done smoothly, while for the next iteration he came up with a solution that looks good but won't scale out very well.
For the last iteration, he doesn' show very strong understanding of the underlying limit of his design (push vs pull mode), and thus didn't come up with a good solution.
Overall design skill is above average, but not that impressive as a senior software engineer.
