Contracts in the Czech Republic must be in Czech, but can be bilingual. They should cover essential details such as name, start date, job description, and termination conditions.
Working Hours and Overtime
Full-time work entails 40 hours per week or 8 hours per day, with shifts not exceeding 12 hours. Overtime, limited to 150 hours annually, is compensated at 125% of regular pay. Weekend work garners 110% pay, while holiday work grants regular pay plus time off.
Probationary Period
Regular employees face a three-month probationary period, extendable to six months for chief officers.
Non-compete Agreements
Non-compete agreements are limited to one year in duration. Employers must compensate employees with at least half of their average earnings for each month of the agreement.

Minimum Wage Requirements
The minimum wage in the Czech Republic is CZK 18,900 per month.
Individual Income Tax
Employees are subject to a flat income tax rate of 15%, regardless of income level. Additionally, they contribute 11% towards social security.
Payroll Cost
Employers bear approximately 34.4% of the employee's salary as payroll costs, including social security (24.8%), public health insurance (9.0%), and accident insurance (0.56%). Other one-off costs may apply, such as onboarding medical checks and equipment allowances.

Maternity Leave
Employees who have contributed to sickness insurance for at least 270 days in the preceding 2 years are entitled to 28 weeks of paid leave, or 36 weeks in case of multiple births. They receive 70% of their assessment base, capped at CZK 49,440 per month, paid by Social Security.
Paternity Leave
Employees with 3 months of continuous sickness insurance contributions are entitled to 14 days of paid leave, receiving 70% of their assessment base, paid by Social Security.
Sick Leave
Employees are entitled to paid sick leave for up to 74 days. The first 14 days are paid by the employer, while the following days are covered by Social Security, with varying percentages of the base salary paid.
Termination
Termination Requirements
  • Terminations in the Czech Republic must adhere to complex regulations and the country's employment laws. The off-boarding process is managed by the employer with input from primary stakeholders, possibly involving ad-hoc fees or specific steps.
  • Compliant terminations include voluntary resignations by employees and unilateral terminations by employers for reasons like unsatisfactory performance, probation period completion, or disciplinary dismissal.
Notice Period
Both dismissals and resignations require a minimum notice period of two months in the Czech Republic.
Severance for Employees
  • Severance pay in the Czech Republic varies based on the length of employment. Employees terminated by the employer unilaterally are entitled to severance pay, ranging from one to three months’ gross salary depending on tenure.
  • Employees have the right to appeal unfair terminations in court for increased severance. Brix implements a Severance Accrual to mitigate financial risks associated with terminations, based on legal entitlements and best practices, ensuring any unused amounts are refunded if an employee resigns or is not entitled to severance.

  • Full-time employees in the Czech Republic are entitled to 20 working days or 160 working hours of paid time off (PTO) annually, with accrual rates of 1.67 days or 13.3 working hours per month. Part-time employees accrue PTO based on their monthly working hours.
  • Employees become eligible for annual leave after two months of work.
